Oh, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper! You’re making all of your state’s marijuana users a little confused with your flip-flopping regarding legalization. It seems that now that your state is showing the positive repercussions of legalization, you’ve had yet another change of heart!
According to an article in Fox News.com, Hickenlooper recently told Fox Business Network that the legalization issue is “not as vexing” as he once feared it would be and he feels the reason for that is “Colorado’s strong fiscal health to the popularity and economic opportunities connected with the legal pot industry.”
Hickenlooper explained, “It’s all those young people coming and they look at marijuana and say, ‘hey, we can drink whiskey, why can’t we have a legalized system with marijuana? If you look back, it has turned out to be not as vexing as some of the people like myself thought it would be.”
In the past, Hickenlooper has been a target of marijuana proponents for coming out against the law that created recreational legalization in his state, even going as far to have said that “Colorado is known for many great things – marijuana should not be one of them.”
But money can change a mind and heart very quickly and Governor Hickenlooper seems to be the prime example of that claim, telling Fox Business Network that the state has been busy “building a regulatory system, making sure we keep it out of the hands of kids, making sure we keep our streets and roads safe.”
Only time will tell if Governor Hickenlooper will find one reason or another to change his latest perception of marijuana legalization. Hickenlooper’s political inconsistency on the matter of marijuana over the years has caused a segment of the population to question his motives when it comes to legalization. Those same residents of the state now hope Hickenlooper’s current feelings about cannabis are here to stay.
