Medical Cannabis Exports to Come Out of Israel

After Weighing Economic, Legal, Regulatory Consequences, Israel is Willing to Take on the Responsibility of Exporting Marijuana

Medical cannabis exports will be coming from Israel to countries that have legalized cannabis for medical use and contracted out for it. The legal marijuana industry is becoming huge and the demand will likely accept imports form Israel happily.

While there is a strong demand for cannabis, it takes much more than that to make a business work. Israel put a lot of effort into creating an exporting structure that makes sense, and as much effort needs to go into any cannabis related business if the plan it to run a long lasting enterprise. Have you outlined your cannabis business model and considered all of the obstacles?

Israel has long-been a frontrunner when it comes to the world of medical cannabis, whether for research, cultivation or production. Now export?

Moshe Bar-Siman-Tov, Director-General of the Ministry of Health, said about the move, “We are leading a topic that is innovative in the world, and therefore it must be done with great care and responsibility, while turning the issue into the highest professional and medical standards.”

The new initiative is being seen by many in the Israeli government as a move in the right direction for cannabis, as well as for Israel. Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon told reporters recently, “Medical cannabis is an industry with significant economic potential for the State of Israel. It will strengthen Israeli agriculture, and particularly in the Arava region.”

The joint committee examined the economic, legal and regulatory aspects of the export of medical cannabis, taking into account the policy of the Ministry of Health regarding the regulation of medical cannabis in Israel. They concluded that the economic potential is huge and that it will help greatly to build the Israeli farming and agriculture industries.

According to the committee’s conclusions, the Jewish State will allow the export of medical cannabis under the following restrictions:

■ Exports will be made by the Ministry of Health or directly by the parties, with close supervision by the State.

■ Export will be approved only for countries that allow the use of medical cannabis and will allow import from Israel explicitly.

■ Export will be approved only for farmers who will receive a license to grow and export from the Ministry of Health.

■ The export of cannabis will be possible for all its various products in its medicinal forms (smoking products, tablets, oils, etc.).
