Working on a television series can be pretty stressful for most actors and actresses. If that series is as epic and ridiculously popular as HBO’s smash hit “Game of Thrones” has been, one can only imagine how much stress and pressure those working on the show must have gone through each season over the past 8+ years. With so many folks across the globe expecting nothing but the best from the series, it comes as little surprise that some of the show’s cast turn to cannabis every now and again to help them de-stress and relax after a long day of shooting.
Two of the show’s most prominent stars, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams (who play Sansa and Arya Stark, respectively) have been particularly candid with their love for weed over the past few years with Turner recently being quoted as saying the following during a recent interview at New York Comic-Con over the weekend: “We’re kind of like loners on Game of Thrones, just because the past few seasons Maisie and I have sleepovers every night when we’re shooting. Or every night whenever both of us are in town. We just used to sit there and eat and watch stupid videos and smoke weed,…I don’t know if my publicist will kill me for saying this. We’d get high and then we’d sit in the bath together and we’d rub makeup brushes on our faces. It’s fun.”
The two best buds have been working hard alongside each other since Game Of Thrones began filming all the way back in 2010 when they were both in their early teens, so they have gotten to know each other for a good chunk of their young lives. Turner spoke about the first time that the two met at one of the final readings for the character of “Sansa” and how they soon became fast friends shortly thereafter saying: “It was the final three for Sansa, and I was like, ****, I really need to up my game. I went in, and was I like, What’s up? ! I gave her a big hug. I was like high-five after every take. I was super extra, but it worked. I read with other Aryas before, but Maisie was special. We just got on like that.”
Back in 2016 the pair famously dressed up in a very clever weed-themed costume as a couple of “Pot Brownies” for Halloween wearing fake junior Girl Scout uniforms, complete with matching cannabis plant sashes and patches. William’s Instagram picture of the duo in costume had a caption that read: “👑Everyone loves a hash brownie👑.” Turner, who starred as psychic mutant Jean Grey in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, will be returning to the role in the film’s follow-up Dark Phoenix, which is scheduled for release on June 7th 2019. While there is no official premiere date as of yet, the eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is set to air sometime during the first half of 2019.
Are you surprised that Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams like to smoke weed and are so open about it?
