Carlton Davis III, Byron Cowart Among Auburn Players Arrested

With all this marijuana legalization talk throughout the country we sometimes forget that cannabis is still illegal in most states.

ESPN reports:

Four Auburn football players were arrested on misdemeanor marijuana charges Saturday night, according to police records.

Sophomores Carlton Davis IIIByron CowartJeremiah Dinson and Ryan Davis face second-degree misdemeanor marijuana-possession charges after being arrested by Auburn police at 11 p.m. on Saturday night.

“I’m aware of the situation and we will handle the matter appropriately,” Tigers coach Gus Malzahn said in a statement.


Carlton Davis, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback from Miami, is expected to start in Auburn’s secondary this coming season. He was named a freshman All-American after totaling 56 tackles and three interceptions in 2015.

Cowart, from Seffner, Florida, was ranked the No. 1 prospect in the 2015 ESPN 300. He largely struggled as a freshman last season, finishing with six tackles while playing as a reserve defensive lineman.

Dinson, a cornerback from Miami, played significantly in the first nine games as a freshman before suffering a serious knee injury. He didn’t participate in spring practice while recovering from torn ligaments in his right knee.

Ryan Davis, from St. Petersburg, Florida, played in eight games as a freshman. He didn’t record a catch last season, and he gained 28 yards on a run off a trick play.
