Philadelphia-based rapper Cassidy was reportedly busted for pot possession last week after cops found a bag of weed, a joint and a grinder in his van.

Cassidy Arrested

Cassidy, whose birth name is Barry Reese, was apprehended in Jersey City last Sunday afternoon after police responded to reports of a parked van emitting a strong odor of weed.

The 35-year old rapper, famous for hit hip-hop songs “I’m a Hustla,” “My Drink n My 2 Step” and “Hotel” was nabbed by police around 4:10 p.m. right in front of his own home. According to the police report, the MC was charged with pot possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers say when they approached the vehicle, they found Cassidy reclined in the front seat with a female accomplice in the passenger seat. Officers claim Reese reached under his seat after he spotted the police and was uncompliant when they asked him to stop.

Reese eventually unlocked the door for the officers and a strong cannabis smell was discharged from the car. According to the report, there was also a joint on the center console in plain sight.

The officers claimed the woman, who was identified as Shanay Reese, was hostile during the questioning and exclaimed, “This is my car and my house. I’m not doing anything wrong.”

After the officers pointed to the joint, she then replied, “But it’s not lit.”

According to the report, the police then found the aforementioned bag of weed and grinder under the bottom of the seat.

Shanay Reese was also charged with possession of marijuana and released on a summons.

Final Hit: Rapper Cassidy Arrested For Pot Possession

Cassidy made a court appearance last week in Criminal Justice Reform Court in Jersey City through a video link from Hudson County Jail in Kearny, New Jersey. The judge remanded the rapper’s charges to Jersey City Municipal Court, where the case will be handled as a disorderly persons defense, as opposed to a criminal case.

Cassidy is due back in court on December 4.

This isn’t Reese’s first run-in with the law. Back in April of 2005, the rapper was one of three men convicted of murdering a Philadelphia man. He was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter, as well as two counts of aggravated assault and was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Despite the fact that New Jersey has yet to decriminalize cannabis, it’s safe to say Cassidy’s latest transgression remains trivial by comparison.
