While TNM is also guilty of occasionally sensationalizing headlines to grab attention – content creators in the marijuana blogosphere do take a few liberties, seeing as anti-marijuana propaganda was forced down to the American public for decades.
Perhaps the most obvious reason that these headlines are becoming more and more popular is they get attention.
While mainstream marketing and media have been using these tactics for literally hundreds of years, the marijuana industry is quickly becoming an integral part of said mainstream media, and when a blogger feels that an important story or perspective should be shared, the first thing they think of is….”how can I get people to notice?”
The key is in the content itself- what message is actually being conveyed by satirical statements and headlines? If the actual message is factual and from a practical perspective, a polarizing headline will expose that message to more people.
