CBD champion Martin Lee and cannabis industry employment education, training, and staffing pioneer Bob Calkin speak with TNMNews hosts Todd Denkin and Jen Gentile this week. This new show can be heard exclusively on TNMNews.com and select radio stations across the country starting Saturday, July 18, 2015.
Cannabinoids Fight Chronic and Old-Age Diseases
Martin Lee, the director of Project CBD and author of the 2012 book Smoke Signals: A Social History of Marijuana—Medical, Recreational and Scientific, tells TNMNews hosts Todd Denkin and Jen Gentile about his efforts and about how cannabidiol (CBD) medications are changing the scope of health and wellness in America.
Lee points out that there are about 100 different plant-derived cannabinoid compounds that produce similar medicinal effects on our bodies that our internally produced cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids, have on us.
He believes we can maintain good health and balance and fight chronic and old-age diseases by supplementing our diets with phytocannabinoids found in marijuana.
“Scientists have shown these diseases are an expression of, or are related to, a deficiency in our own endocannabinoid system,” says Lee. “When we don’t have enough of our natural cannabinoids, we become prone to illness.”
Lee is also cofounder of the media watchdog group Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR), a group formed in 1986 to combat corporate and establishment media bias. Lee says that although we don’t hear exaggerated Reefer Madness-like claims anymore—such as “if you smoke a joint, you’ll go out and kill your brother”—we do continue to hear persistent myths that marijuana causes psychosis, increased drug use, and lower IQ.
Launch Your Own Cannabis Delivery Service
Cannabis vocational training pioneer Bob Calkin explains to TNMNews hosts Todd and Jen that education plays a critical role in the marijuana industry by training vocational workers and entrepreneurs for success.
Calkin, who is president of the Cannabis Career Institute and Green Dot Consulting, launched the Green Dot Guy cannabis delivery service in Los Angeles in 1988. In 2006, he realized he wasn’t the only cannabis business, so he decided to get into helping others launch successful cannabis businesses.
Two things he feels are important are: getting to know and appreciate the differences between state and federal laws and aligning responsibilities with the right experts—such as attorneys to work with law enforcement and accountants to work with the IRS.
Calkin has sold thousands of copies of his book, Starting your own Medical Marijuana Delivery Service: The Mobile Caregiver’s Handbook.
You can hear these interviews and catch the latest cannabis-related news by listening to the broadcast beginning Saturday, July 18, 2015 on TNMNews.com.
